Description
MD COMBAT Custom Judogi are manufactured to the technical standards of the world’s most decorated combat sport at the Olympic level. Judo has been contested at every Olympic Games since 1964 and is governed internationally by the IJF (International Judo Federation), whose technical regulations for competition uniforms are among the most detailed and strictly enforced of any combat sport governing body. We manufacture judogi within this framework, producing uniforms that meet IJF competition compliance requirements, national federation specifications, and the practical durability demands of daily club training.
The judogi consists of the jacket (uwagi), the trousers (zubon), and the belt (obi). IJF competition regulations specify exact requirements for every dimension and construction detail of the judogi: the jacket must be of sufficient size to overlap at least 20 centimetres across the chest at the level of the bottom of the sternum, sleeves must leave a space of 10 to 15 centimetres between the sleeve and the wrist when the arm is extended, the jacket must extend 15 centimetres below the top of the thigh, and trousers must leave a space of 5 to 10 centimetres between the trouser and the ankle. Fabric must be white or blue cotton, of sufficient weight and weave density to resist the gripping forces of competitive judo without tearing. We produce to these specifications with documentation available for buyers supplying national teams and international competition programmes.
The most fundamental distinction in judogi manufacturing is between single weave and double weave fabric constructions, and this choice defines the entire character of the garment. Single weave judogi — fabric weight typically 450–650 GSM — are lighter, more flexible, and easier to grip, making them the preferred construction for training environments, beginners’ classes, junior programmes, and warm-climate markets. They are less expensive to produce, easier to launder, and dry faster after washing, all of which are practical advantages for high-frequency club training use. Double weave judogi — fabric weight typically 750–950 GSM — are the competition standard. The double weave construction layers two fabric structures together to create a thick, heavy, stiff material that is genuinely difficult to grip, that snaps dramatically during throwing techniques, and that projects the formal authority that high-level judo competition demands. At IJF World Tour and Olympic qualification level, double weave is the expected standard and anything lighter is immediately recognisable as a training gi.
The jacket construction of the judogi is structurally more demanding than the BJJ gi jacket in specific areas related to judo’s throwing emphasis. The collar and lapel system must withstand powerful gripping forces applied in multiple directions simultaneously during grip fighting and throwing combinations — the sleeve pull, the collar grip, and the body grip must all be resisted by the construction without seam failure. Our judogi jackets feature reinforced collar attachment stitching at multiple points along the lapel, triple-stitched side seam construction from armhole to hem, reinforced sleeve cuff and shoulder seam construction, and a structured back yoke that distributes the stress of ippon-seoi-nage and other back-loading throws across a wider fabric area.
Trouser construction for the judogi addresses the specific stress points of judo throwing and groundwork. The inner thigh seam is triple stitched and reinforced with cotton twill tape to resist the lateral forces of uchi-mata, tai-otoshi, and guard recovery positions in newaza. The knee area uses a reinforced double-fabric panel to withstand the impact and abrasion of judo breakfalls and kneeling groundwork positions. The waistband uses a wide flat cotton drawstring with a traditional overhand tie construction that conforms to IJF requirements for waistband fastening.
Colour regulations in competition judo are clearly defined. IJF competition requires one competitor in white gi and one in blue gi — matching sets of both colours are the standard order format for clubs, academies, and national federations preparing athletes for graded competition. We produce matched white and blue sets from the same fabric batch to ensure colour-matched production quality between the two competition colours.
For private-label and OEM brand owners, the judogi market presents a significant commercial opportunity. High-quality IJF-standard judogi retail at premium price points in European and Japanese markets, and there is a consistent demand gap between the top Japanese and Korean brands and accessible mid-market options. Our judogi programme supports complete brand development with custom woven labels, custom embroidered patches, branded belt options, and retail-ready packaging that meets the presentation standards of the specialist judo retail market.
