Description

MD COMBAT Custom Taekwondo Dobok are manufactured to serve the world’s largest Olympic combat sport by registered practitioner numbers. Taekwondo is practised in over 200 countries, is the national sport of South Korea, and is contested at every Olympic Games and at World Championships that attract representation from virtually every nation on earth. The scale of the global taekwondo market — in clubs, schools, academies, national federations, and commercial dojo chains — makes the dobok one of the highest-volume individual uniform products in all of combat sports, and we manufacture it with the production capacity, quality consistency, and customization capability to serve buyers operating at every scale within that market.

The taekwondo dobok consists of the jacket (top), the trousers (bottoms), and the belt (tti). The distinguishing design feature of the dobok is the jacket construction, which comes in two primary styles that serve different market segments. The V-neck dobok jacket — the contemporary WT competition standard — features a V-shaped front opening that requires no ties or closures, is pulled on over the head, and provides a clean, unobstructed chest profile for electronic body protector scoring systems used in WT competition. The cross-collar or wrap jacket — the traditional taekwondo style — features an overlapping front closure in the manner of the traditional Korean martial arts uniform, tied at the side with white cotton ties, and remains widely used in traditional, ITF, and non-WT competition programmes.

Fabric construction for the dobok occupies a different technical space from judo and BJJ gi. Because taekwondo is a primarily striking art rather than a grappling art, the dobok is not subject to the same pulling and gripping stresses that define gi construction. The primary functional requirements of the dobok fabric are lightness, flexibility, and freedom of movement for high kicks — spinning heel kicks, axe kicks, back kicks, and jumping techniques that require maximum hip flexibility and no restriction from the garment. This means dobok fabric is significantly lighter than judo or BJJ gi fabric, typically ranging from 180 GSM to 280 GSM in competition weight fabrics.

Our dobok are produced in 100% polyester performance fabrics and cotton-polyester blends across three weight and performance categories. Lightweight competition dobok at 180–220 GSM in polyester are the WT competition standard — these gi are specifically designed to be as light and unrestricting as possible while maintaining the formal white appearance required for competition. The polyester construction allows the characteristic sharp snap sound when executing fast kicking techniques, which is both aesthetically satisfying for practitioners and functionally meaningful as feedback for technique speed and crispness. Standard training dobok at 220–260 GSM in cotton-polyester blend are the most widely ordered fabric for club training programmes — they balance lightness and durability for daily training use. Traditional heavyweight dobok at 260–320 GSM in cotton are used by traditional and ITF programmes where a more substantial, formal garment is preferred and competition weight management is not a factor.

The trousers of the taekwondo dobok are distinctive in construction. They feature a very wide, deep-cut leg opening and a gusseted crotch that allows the full splits and high kick positions fundamental to taekwondo training without the trouser pulling or restricting at the hip. The waistband is elasticated throughout with a flat drawstring. The inseam is cut much wider than a standard athletic trouser and the leg may taper slightly to the ankle or remain straight depending on the style specification.

WT competition regulations govern the colour, design, and markings of the competition dobok. The standard WT competition dobok is white with black trim on the collar and cuffs indicating dan (black belt) grade, or plain white for geup grades. National team doboks feature national flag embroidery on the left chest and back name and national team identification. Club doboks for non-WT competition use offer the widest design freedom and are where sublimation trim panels, coloured piping, logo embroidery, and club identity graphics are incorporated.

Customization of the taekwondo dobok is an important commercial opportunity across multiple buyer segments. National federations order dobok embroidered with the national crest and flag as standard team uniform items. Commercial dojo chains and club networks order matching dobok sets with the club name and logo as the primary identifier for their training community. School and university taekwondo programmes order plain or lightly branded dobok in bulk for programme students. Private-label brand owners targeting Asian, Middle Eastern, and European taekwondo retail markets order fully custom dobok with their brand identity replacing all standard labelling.
